Gun found in bikies car

Two cars were discovered outside an apartment block in Brunswick on Tuesday night that had been ransacked.

Cpl. Jason Neave told CBC Radio's Metro Morning Tuesday that officers were called to the scene at about 9:30pm.

It was discovered the cars — one of which had been taken in the early hours of Sunday morning, and the other — were gone.

The drivers, a female and male, were located by a person who was driving the cars but who has not been named to protect the identity of the person who was inside, said Neave.

Neave was not able to provide further details, but he said the woman — later identified as 33-year-old Cpl. Andrea Gagliano of the Central Ontario Police — "was very shaken up."

Police have now recovered two of the vehicles — one of which — is a green Chevrolet Traverse sedan. The second is a grey Lexus sedan similar to the last vehicle taken in the morning. Both cars have tags that clearly indicate they were used as vehicle break-ins.

An investigation is underway, including a forensic analysis. Police are asking anyone with information to call them at 416-808-5422, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).

Kalgoorlie business chamber urges new pm to back small business

The Small Business Chamber of Australia (SBCA) believes a new PM and the Government can save money by backing the smaller businesses that benefit from tax.

SBCA CEO Jim Wilson said Mr Abbott should use a strong stance on tax reform to boost the jobs, revenue and social welfare of small business.

"This is a major priority for the SBCA's President, Bob Wallis," Mr Wilson said in a statement.

"There has never been a more important time for small businesses to put their livelihoods at risk by seeking tax relief from the Government to maintain our nation's economic growth.

"This is why we are calling for Mr Abbott to back small businesses in their battle to gain tax relief as his Government begins the process of overhauling our tax system."

Mr Wilson added Mr Abbott also had to ensure small businesses are not at risk of losing tax credits through the controversial GST changes.

"This issue is not about targeting specific categories of businesses. It is about helping small businesses through the transition of the GST so they may be able to survive," Mr Wilson said.

"In the words of the Prime Minister himself, Mr Abbott can no longer countenance large-scale tax increases."

Alliance of western councils to wind up London boroughs under local planning limits in controversial new plans

The council, which owns the Crown Estate, has set out how it will sell off "historic assets" by 2038 to pay for a new housing estate next to it – and the money will be made "for local benefit".

According to the council, it would save ВЈ80m a year by selling off heritage buildings for the new estate, which would include the Crown Estate.

The council said that because there were too many "historical properties" held within the council's own land and because of the Crown Estate, "the value of the Crown Estate has fallen far below where it should be".

But in a bid to persuade more of the residents of Crown Estate to live in the new estate on nearby lands, the council said that it would be buying up up historic properties from those who do not have a land claim.

The development of Crown Estate – on the River Thames between the Thames and the Docklands – will come to a conclusion in summer 2018.

Under current plans of the council, council tax will gradually rise across London to compensate for lost tax revenues.

However the plans, which also include a proposed 5 per cent rise in council tax in the rest of the UK, will not be introduced for several years as the government negotiates a new settlement for the Crown Estate with the government, and the council is seeking to sell properties to increase its own cash flow, it added.

However the council did say that it could buy back existing Crown Estate properties at a later date.

The plan will give the council ВЈ30m "as part of a comprehensive sale that includes the development of historic properties and an improved plan of development" from 2033 to 2039.

There are fears by some that it may be used to create a new private borough to replace the existing borough of Hackney. This "bogus borough" would be based on a "crown-owned site", with all council tax and housing charges already collected from the Crown Estate.

The new borough would be made up of two districts – A and B – with the existing council estates selling off to the new council of London.

The city of London and a "bogus" "federated" borough will be given the final say, with new capital city boundaries drawn after some council houses were demolished as part of the redevelopment.

This would not apply to those who are still in Crown Estate lands, and it would not affect those councils that currently own crown estates under the Crown Estate, it is added.
